President's Message
Welcome to the SGMP Web site! SGMP – the Society of Government Meeting Professionals is the only organization that focuses exclusively on the needs of the government meeting planner. Of the 3,500+ members across the United States many of them are employed by the federal, state, local, county, and city government agencies. Our supplier members represent the hotel industry, convention and visitor bureaus, audio visual companies, airlines, and other meeting-related companies who are dedicated to providing the required resources that the meeting planner needs to complete their job.
SGMP offers a wide variety of educational training sessions through monthly programs at the local Chapter level and at the Annual Education Conferences that are held throughout the United States. Training sessions include, but are not limited to: government ethics; contracting and negotiating tips; government travel do’s and don’ts; understanding the government market; communication skills, meeting planning skills for the novice and advanced; green meetings; FEMA requirements; leadership development; etc. SGMP is recognized as the expert for government meetings and is an integral part of the meetings and hospitality industry.
