Thank you for your interest in the Society of Government Meeting Professionals (SGMP) and our publication, Government Meetings Advantage. The following information serves as a guideline for getting your article published in our magazine.
Advertising Rates and Information
Audience
Advantage magazine is written and edited for government planners, contract planners, and suppliers in the hospitality field. Each issue seeks to provide information, how-to's, trends, and technology issues relevant to the meetings industry.
Deadlines
All submissions must be e-mailed to the editor, charles.sadler@sgmp.org,
no later than the following deadlines:
Spring Issue: February 1
Summer Issue: May 1
Fall Issue: August 1
Winter Issue: November 1
Requirements
When you submit your article, please make sure you have the following:
- Title
- By-line
- Lead sentence or paragraph to compel the audience to read.
- Author's biography, consisting of two or three sentences with your name, title, affiliation, and contact information.
- Document saved as a Word document or in rich text format.
Style
How you write your article will say a lot about you, the author. Help readers understand the information by giving specific, applicable examples. Provide relevant statistics and details to support your points. All resources should be cited at the end of the article. Reread your submission twice for spelling, understanding, and accuracy. Ask a colleague to read it.
Submissions will be evaluated based on relevancy, interest, and readability. SGMP may accept the article as is, accept it for a staff rewrite, or accept it contingent on the author's revisions. All articles are subject to editing for style, clarity, and space.
Photographs
We welcome photographs or graphics to accompany your article. The photograph or slide may be mailed directly to SGMP, at 908 King Street, Lower Level, Alexandria, VA 22314. Digital images should be sent in jpeg, tiff, or gif format with a resolution of 300 dpi.
Copyright
All articles become the property of SGMP. Authors may be asked to sign a copyright release form to this effect.
Editorial Calendar*
Spring (deadline for submissions February 1)
CVBs and OTHER MEETING RESOURCES—This issue will explore all available resources for meeting planners and suppliers that assist in the performance of their job, with a special focus on CVBs. Addendum articles will focus on events and properties from across the country.
Summer (deadline for submissions May 1)
ANNUAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE SUMMARY—This issue will recap the Annual Education Conference. It will also highlight the value of contract planners and their importance in the industry. Addendum articles will focus on events and properties from across the country.
Fall (deadline for submissions August 1)
TECHNOLOGY—This issue will explore new technology that supports the meetings industry, specifically, and the business traveler, in general. Experts will discuss what is “user friendly” and what is simply “techno-hype.” Addendum articles will focus on events and properties from across the country.
Winter (deadline for submissions November 1)
CUSTOMER SERVICE—This issue will highlight new and improved techniques for offering quality customer service from the perspective of both suppliers and meeting planners. It will also offer advice and tips for improving relationships between planners and suppliers. Addendum articles will focus on events and properties from across the country.
