How To Bring a Course to Your Area

Certified Government Meeting Professional

Identifying Potential Cities and Participants

In order for a course to be viable, a chapter should provide a list of at least 20 potential participants. These participants should be chapter members who will have been members for at least six months prior to the end date of the course (within a 2 day window). The ideal class size should be between 15 and 25 participants. Since courses that are offered within 200 miles tend to pull from each other, SGMP will not offer a course if another course has been offered within 200 miles in the past two months. Chapters are encouraged to co-host courses.

Identifying Sites

All sites used for the CGMP course should be active members of SGMP in good standing. Only sites willing to offer complimentary meeting space will be considered. In the case that a site is unwilling to offer complimentary meeting space, sites outside of SGMP's membership will be researched before a contract with meeting rental is signed. Should the Conference and Meetings Manager need to contract with a site outside of SGMP membership, effort should be made to get the new site to become a member of SGMP.

Sites should be accessible via public transportation or have an airport shuttle service. Since meals are not provided as part of the course, sites should have at least two dining options for participants. On your application, please submit a list of at least three potential sites for hosting the course. The Conference and Meetings Manager will secure the location for the course.

Identifying Dates

Chapters wishing to host a course are encouraged to identify at least two sets of dates that they believe will work well for participants. The course runs for three full days and the exam is given on the morning of the fourth day. CGMP courses will not overlap with National Board of Directors meetings, the Joint Leadership Meeting or the National Education Conference. Courses may be offered over the weekend.

Identifying Exam Proctors

The CGMP exam is given the morning of the fourth day of the course and is proctored by a local SGMP member who has already attained her/his CGMP. On your application, please list at least two people able to proctor the CGMP exam.

Deadline for Submitting the Application

Applications for hosting a CGMP course should be submitted at least 45 days prior to the earliest date when the course would be held.
