National Charity

National Charity Volunteer Information Sheet

Volunteering is currently beyond capacity, thank you to all of our volunteers. We look forward to a successful event and unfortunately are not able to accept additional volunteers for this event.

SGMP is very proud to present the National Charity for the 2012 National Education Conference in New Orleans. This year's charity is the New Orleans Family Justice Center (NOFJC). In 2007, the U. S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) in partnership with U.S. Attorney Jim Letten identified a need for coordinated services for domestic violence victims in New Orleans post Katrina. The NOFJC works with the City of New Orleans, community leaders, law enforcement, criminal justice and domestic violence advocates to provide co-located services to victims of family violence and sexual assault and their children in order to increase safety, victim's access to services and enhance offender accountability.

The Louisiana Chapter SGMP will coordinate the fund raising campaign for the NOFJC that will be used in the various programs and services offered to the local families and children in need. In addition to our traditional efforts to raise funds at the 2012 NEC and with our chapters, SGMP will be involved in a hands-on project for the NOFJC at the Crescent House. This facility provides more than a shelter for families and is really a home away from home. The National Board and other member volunteers will be rehabilitating a courtyard playground for the resident children. This event will be on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. This legacy event provides SGMP an opportunity to celebrate New Orleans and its citizens hospitality during our 30th National Education Conference!
