Membership Ownership

Each SGMP membership requires a single individual representative who will receive the rights and benefits of membership in our Society. Our membership, therefore, is comprised of individuals and not agencies or companies (but more than one individual at any organization may be a member). Each member in any category (including planner and supplier) will be given one of two membership types: "individual" or "organizational." This individual or organizational differentiation pertains only to how to handle a membership transfer.

An organizational membership type never means that an entire organization is a member. It simply means that the organization paid the dues and owns the right to select a representative for the membership. If the dues payment that comes with a membership application is on a personal check or credit card, that membership is marked as "individual." If the dues payment that comes with a membership application is on a corporate check or credit card, that membership is marked as "organizational."

If a company or agency can show that they reimbursed a membership that was initially paid by a personal card or check, then that membership can be marked as organizational.

Our policies state that a Government Planner membership may only be paid for by that individual or by the agency that employs them. For all other member categories, a membership paid by a third party will be marked as organizational.

An "individual" membership is paid for (and belongs to) the individual and remains with that individual regardless of their place of employment; it is not transferable to another individual.

An "organizational" membership is paid for (and belongs to) the company/agency employing the individual and remains with that organization; the organization may transfer it to another individual.

An organizational membership may be transferred for free when that membership is being renewed. There is a form to use and a fee to pay to complete a member transfer outside of the renewal. Please note that due to PCI compliance, the only method of submission we can recommend is postal mail.
