2019 NEC Rance R. Willis Planner Development Scholarship recipients.
Thinking about attending NEC on scholarship? Each year, SGMP's charitable auction helps send planner members to SGMP's National Education Conference (NEC). The Gilmer Institute of Learning administers the Rance R. Willis Planner Development Scholarship and will accept applications November 1, 2019 through 5pm EST on Friday, December 6, 2019. Apply online now.
Scholarship winners not only attend the conference, but also take a leading role in helping introduce speakers and moderate sessions. The 38th Annual NEC will be held May 19-21, 2020 in St. Louis, Missouri. We anticipate registration to open in November.
Here's what one of our scholarship recipients, Rebecca Llewellyn, CGMP, had to say about her experience at the 2019 NEC:
“Attending the NEC is a ‘must' for any government meeting or event planner. Acquiring financial support from a government agency to attend national conferences and events can be challenging. I doubt that I would have been provided this opportunity if it wasn't for the scholarship, and now that I have attended I will pursue agency funding to attend again, or use personal funds, if needed. It's a great place to get new ideas and build your professional network. This was my first time attending NEC and it was so wonderful to meet people from all over the country who share in the mission to enhance and expand our expertise as government meeting professionals.”
The scholarship is available to planners who would not be able to attend the NEC without financial assistance. Associate supplier members who plan meetings or conduct site selection functions for government meetings are also eligible to apply.
Awardees will be announced January 2020. Thereafter, SGMP chapters may begin their local scholarship award process.
