Global Meetings Industry Day is Thursday, April 8th! It is an international day of advocacy to showcase the real impact meetings and events have on federal, state and local governments, businesses, economies and communities.
There's no doubt that the current landscape for meetings and events is one of the most challenging in our history. Even so, industry professionals--like you--rise to the occasion time and time again. Consider GMID 2020, where we all swiftly pivoted to virtual, and compare it to today, where we are beginning to hold safe in-person events and embracing hybrid and virtual models with more skill than ever before.
GMID 2021, with the theme “Meet Safe,” will highlight the precautions the industry is taking to keep everyone safe and ensure productivity, as well as the incredible value our industry brings to our global economic recovery.
You can get involved with the festivities in these three ways:
1. Check in with your SGMP chapter to see if they are holding or collaborating on a virtual event.- SGMP Lone Star Capital Chapter
- SGMP National Capital Chapter
- SGMP Rocky Mountain Chapter
- SGMP Minnesota Northern Lights Chapter
3. SGMP is hosting a SGMP Strong check-in for all SGMP members via Zoom video call later this month on Tuesday, April 27th at 1 pm EDT, so we can support one another and share advice and resources. Bring your best ideas and let's connect.
The Meetings Mean Business Coalition (MMBC), of which SGMP is a member, is showcasing safely conducted meetings and events (https://www.meetsafe.travel/). Please share your own safe and successful events story, by going to the bottom of the page to: SHARE YOUR MEETING EXPERIENCE. It's a great way to showcase your organization and venue.
Recent MMBC survey results show 81% of American workers who attended in-person meetings and conventions prior to the pandemic say they miss these events and they will attend as many–if not more–in the future. We know the demand for meetings has not waned!
We see the light at the end of the tunnel, as our industry has evolved, and we have learned to reskill and adapt along with it. Having a professional community to rely on has helped us all in large and small ways. Know that SGMP is here for you. We look forward to seeing you at our 2021 NEC. Stay healthy, safe and positive.
