Unconscious bias is a quiet, yet powerful performance killer because it interferes with our ability to build relationships across differences and leads to bad decisions that impair individual and organizational performance. One way it negatively affects performance is through its impact on institutional inclusion. Inclusive environments maximize the likelihood of success for a diverse range of people.
Unfortunately, unconscious bias can greatly inhibit this success. This session describes unconscious bias, identifies the specific ways it can diminish inclusion and proffers steps we can take to reduce bias and its negative impact.
Specifically, as a result of this highly interactive virtual workshop, you will be able to do the following:
Dr. Tyrone Holmes
- Define unconscious bias and describe the different types of bias that can negatively impact organizational inclusion.
- Identify the specific, subtle ways unconscious bias can promote exclusion (including the recruitment, selection, staff development, leadership development and evaluation processes).
- Identify specific steps you can take to reduce your unconscious bias and diminish the negative impact it has on organizational inclusion.
