2021 National Elections and Candidate Information
Call for Nominations Now Open
Nominations are now being accepted for all eight elected Board positions and three GIL Trustee positions. All positions have a two year term of office, (July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2023). Any member may nominate himself/herself or another member for a position. Please note all nominees must complete and submit the nominee information sheet including all questions on the application by 5:00 pm Eastern Time on Friday, January 22, 2021.
The National Nominations and Elections (N&E) Committee is responsible for validating qualified member candidates and assuring a balanced list of approved candidates that is consistent with SGMP bylaws and policies. The committee's role is to also hold all N&E information in strict confidence; to address all possible eligibility, campaigning, or elections infractions or irregularities in order to ensure a balanced list of qualified candidates and a fair and equitable elections process; and to see that all N&E decisions and actions are the right and proper thing to do on behalf of SGMP. SGMP N&E committee works with SGMP staff to collect and verify the eligibility of all nominations; to refer all possible eligibility, campaigning, and elections infractions to the chair; and to administer the voting process via SGMP's SurveyMonkey account and at the direction of the chair.
The campaigning period for these elections starts February 23, 2021, and ends at 12:00 midnight Eastern time on Wednesday, March 1, 2021. We’d like to specifically refer you to the Campaign Rules and Guidelines Supplement that itemizes and describes very important rules for candidates, chapter leaders and all members. A violation of these rules could result in a code of ethics inquiry and/or a candidate’s disqualification. All voting members (planners and suppliers) on the official election roster will be sent an electronic ballot on Thursday, March 2, 2021. The election ends on March 9, 2021.
It is understood that SGMP members will have preferences among certain candidates and it is certainly acceptable that there will be discussions among members regarding nominations & elections issues and candidates. However, SGMP members are prohibited from endorsing or publicly promoting any one candidate or candidates.SGMP’s Nominations & Elections Committee is responsible for arranging and overseeing national elections consistent with SGMP bylaws and policy.
