Membership COmmittee

Chris McLaughlinBoard Liaison - Chris McLaughlin, CGMP

The purpose of the National Membership Committee is to achieve the membership retention and growth goals as determined by the National Board. Primary membership growth goals are to attract 300 new members in 2022-2023 and to retain at least 74% of members for the year. This committee is responsible for guiding chapter membership chairs and chapter leaders on:

-Retaining existing members by continuous communication with existing members about renewal of membership
-Recognizing accomplishments of our members
-Providing exclusive education and training for government planners and suppliers, and 
-How to utilize a systems approach to reach people who can benefit from SGMP through various resources. 
 

Estimated time of involvement: The committee will meet on a monthly basis for 1 hour and will have assignments from the meetings that could take up to 2 hours a month.


Nominations & Elections Committee

Michelle ChiaravalliBoard Liaison - Michelle Chiaravalli, CGMP

This committee manages the process for chapter and national elections.  Committee members are assigned 2-4 chapters (during chapter elections) to serve as a liaison.

Committee workload is conducted primarily via email, but also includes approximately one committee conference call per month October-May.  Time commitment is approximately 4 hours per month.  The committee is tasked with developing appropriate timelines, templates and other resource docs for the entire N&E life cycle – both on the national and chapter level. Committee liaisons work with 2-4 chapter N&E chairs throughout the (chapter election) process and serve as a resource for the chapters. 


Finance Committee

Mark RichardsonBoard Liaison - Mark Richardson, CGMP

This committee assists with the financial oversight of the society through the preparation of the annual budget, review of monthly financial statements, oversight of chapter financial budget submissions and monthly financial statements, and review of the annual tax return and audit preparation. The committee is focused on increasing transparency and maintaining the financial health of SGMP.


Sponsorship Taskforce

This taskforce is focused on developing sponsorship opportunities for the Society including but not limited to the NEC. Quarterly calls are held with an increase in calls prior to the NEC. 

Estimated time of involvement: 5 hours per month. 


Joint Leadership Taskforce

Zondra White JonesBoard Liaison - Zondra White Jones, CGMP & Dina Fong, CGMP

This task force will assist in developing content for the Joint Leadership Session (JLS) that takes place in-person at the annual National Education Conference (NEC) and our new Joint Leadership Meetings (JLM) Focus Sessions that will take place on a quarterly basis via Zoom. The Joint Leadership Meeting (JLM) and Joint Leadership Session (JLS) discuss best practices for chapter leaders. The task force will meet on a monthly basis to develop content and find presenters. 

Estimated time of involvement: 2-4 hours per month.


National COmmunications Committee

Susan ShaffetteBoard Liaison - Susan Shaffette, CGMP

This committee will assist SGMP national communications by providing content and/or solicit article suggestions as well as potential authors on a number of platforms: 1) Social Media, 2) Blog on SGMP.org website, and 3) Government Connections magazine.

The committee will also provide guidance and support chapter communication chairs and chapter leaders by sharing best practices to effectively reach and engage SGMP members and promote the organization’s events and other news.

Estimated time of involvement: 2-3 hours per month including one-hour bi-monthly committee meetings.


Programming & Education Committee

Gilmer Institute of LearningOverseen by the Gilmer Institute of Learning Education & Program Trustees

This committee will ensure SGMP’s educational offerings support its mission and are responsive to the needs of the SGMP membership and the profession at large.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • In conjunction with the Gilmer Education and Programming Trustees, create new programs for chapters to use for monthly meetings
  • Assist with the review of programs submitted by chapters for inclusion in the program bank
  • Solicit input from SGMP members regarding their educational needs
  • Recommend new educational offerings for Gilmer Trustee and National Board approval
 
Qualifications: Committee members must have a desire to support the goals and objectives of the committee and SGMP. Since most communication and work will be conducted electronically, members should have regular access to email, phone, and the internet. In addition, members should possess the ability to quickly learn systems used in the work of the committee - Microsoft Office products, Google Suite, Zoom Conferencing, etc. 
 
The Length of Appointment: 1 year
 
Estimated time of involvement: The Education Committee will conduct the business of the committee through an ongoing schedule of quarterly conference calls and electronic communications. The time commitment is roughly 2-4 hours per month.

Fundraising Committee

Gilmer Institute of LearningThis Committee is overseen by the Gilmer Institute of Learning Fundraising Trustees

This Committee will assist the Fundraising Trustees with securing auction items and planning the Annual NEC Auction. The task force will conduct quarterly conference calls with the possibility of monthly calls March – May.

Estimated time of involvement: 1-3 hours per month, with the largest commitment being the months of February - May.

DEI Taskforce

Michelle ChiaravalliBoard Liaison - Michelle Chiaravalli, CGMP

The DE&I Task Force will continue to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in leadership in SGMP Chapters and at the National level. As needed the task force will make recommendations for policy and bylaws change to ensure our continued commitment to DE&I. The task force will meet on a quarterly basis or more frequently when needed.
 
Estimated time of involvement: 2-4 hours per month.
